Volvo did a fair bit of politicking at the end of the 2000s due to a few disagreements with the STCC organisers regarding weight penalties to the C30 Flexifuel.

A rumour popped up at the end of 2008 that Volvo was going to snap up Plato following the conclusion of the SEAT deal. Volvo's motorsport director Derek Crabb later confirmed it, and that they were open to a three year deal with a new S60 (subject to sponsors) in the BTCC - possibly with Team Dynamics.

Early in 2009, the rumours fired up more with the suggestion from Crabb that Polestar would be entering at the Snetterton round with Robert Dahlgren, ahead of a full assault in 2010. This obviously didn't happen - although Polestar did enter both Dahlgren and Tommy Rustad at the Brands Hatch WTCC round that year.

Dynamics did confirm they were in talks with Volvo to run a pair of C30s for 2010. WSR and Motorbase were also reportedly in the running at the time.

I didn't know that. Would have been cool to see the Volvo around.

I remember that.

Nissan were supposed to return in 2001 but they never produced a car.
